Swyx servers whose Remote Connector certificate has not been renewed for more than ten years may experience connection problems. In such cases, it is possible that end devices or clients can no longer establish a connection via the Swyx Remote Connector.
The error typically manifests itself in problems such as incorrect logins, missing call set-ups or status synchronisation not working.
The cause of this behaviour is the automatic expiry of the Swyx Remote Connector certificate after a period of ten years. As soon as the certificate expires, all connections between the client and server are blocked.
Important notes: The Remote Connector certificate is not automatically renewed when the Swyx system is updated. Automatic certificate renewal only takes place if the certificate management has been set to automatic renewal via the Swyx Connectivity Setup Tool SCST, for example with certificates from Let's Encrypt.
Renewal of an expired Remote Connector certificate:
An expired certificate can be easily recreated or updated using the Swyx Config Wizard or the SCST tool. After a new certificate has been created, Swyx users receive an error message on their clients indicating that a new certificate is available. The user must confirm this message once and then log in again. The newly created certificate is again valid for ten years.
Further information on creating a Remote Connector certificate can be found in the Swyx Help
